Under 20 World Cup

Spain 2 - Canada 1

A golden goal from Atlético Madrid's Arizmendi against Canada was enough to take Spain through to the semi-finals of the youth world cup. It was hard work though in a match which Armando Ufarte's side should have wrapped up in the first half, but which became more complicated as time wore on. Iniesta put the youngsters ahead ten minutes before half time, from Melli's pass, and Gavilán hit the post soon afterwards. But Hume levelled the scores on a breakaway early in the second half, and Spain were left with ten men when Vitolo picked up a second booking ten minutes later. With the scores level after ninety minutes the game went into sudden death extra time, and substitute Arizmendi took advantage of a defensive error to hit the winner and take his side through to a semi-final tie with Colombia next Monday.
