Second division, day 16

Leaders Numancia moved a point clear of Levante after a 0-0 draw with Almería on Sunday lunchtime. Last week's third placed side Sporting Gijon were unable to take advantage though, falling 3-2 to Ciudad de Murcia, a result which saves the head of manager Lillo. Elche and Getafe cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw, and Leganés got their first home win of the season, 2-1 against struggling Málaga B. And Poli Ejido distanced themselves from the relegation spots with a 2-0 win over Recreativo. (14.12.03)

Levante moved up level with leaders Numancia pending their game on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Salamanca. Congo hit the winner a quarter of an hour from the end. Alavés beat Rayo Vallecano 1-2 with a controversial last goal from Quique De Lucas to close up on the promotion spots, and Cádiz also stay in touch with a 0-2 win at Las Palmas, who sacked their manager after the game. The other three matches played on Saturday evening, Eibar v Tenerife, Xerez v Córdoba and Terrassa v Algeciras, all ended in 0-0 draws. (13.12.03)
