Second division, week 20

Sporting Gijon are the new leaders of the second division after the top two both lost. Goals from Bilic and Miguel gave the Asturians a 2-0 victory over Almería, who continue to slide down the table after nine games without a win. Last week's leaders Numancia were surprisingly beaten 0-1 at home by bottom club Algeciras, and second placed Levante also lost 1-0 to Poli Ejido, who move out of the relegation spots as a result.

Alavés followed up their cup victory with a 0-1 win at Ciudad Murcia, Quique De Lucas getting the goal, and they are now only one point outside of the top three. Cádiz were held to a 2-2 draw by neighbours Xerez, who came from two goals down to save a point, and they have been caught by Eibar, who move above Getafe after beating them 2-0. This was only the second defeat of the season for the Madrid based side.

Surprises at the bottom of the table though, with Tenerife losing 0-1 to Málaga B to join Las Palmas in the relegation spots. With both Canary Island clubs struggling financially, this was the last thing they wanted. Rayo Vallecano inched further away from the bottom four after drawing 1-1 with Salamanca, although they must once again be ruing dropped points as the visitors equalised in the last minute. Recreativo Huelva beat Leganés 0-2, their third win in a row, to move into the top half of the table. The other two games on Saturday night ended all square, with Rubén getting two for Las Palmas as they came away from Terrassa with a 2-2 scoreline, and Elche and Córdoba sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.
