Spain 2 - Perú 1

Spain beat Perú 2-1 in their friendly game at the Montjuic stadium in Barcelona, a match which manager Iñaki Sáez used to give a run out to some of the players he expects to call up for this summer's Euro 2004 competition in Portugal. His side found themselves behind with twenty minutes on the clock when Solano collected a cross from the left and fired a shot over Casillas and in to the top corner of the net. Etxeberría made it all square though ten minutes later with a first time volley after Vicente's cross was headed up, and Baraja put the home side in front soon afterwards when he connected with another cross from Vicente to head down past Ibañez. Sáez made seven changes at the break, and local boy Tamudo came on to hit the post on a quick breakaway only two minutes after the restart. But after that they hardly troubled the keeper, and the South Americans came close to levelling the scores later on when Cañizares saved at point blank range from Silva. (18.02.04)
