Second division, week 27

Leaders Sporting Gijon were held to their second draw in a row on Sunday night, this time 1-1 by Salamanca, but still stay three points clear at the top of the table. Dani Borreguero scored a second half penalty but missed another later in the game, and the visitors levelled the scores late on through David Cano. Numancia took advantage to overtake Levante and close back up on the Asturians after a narrow 1-0 win over Poli Ejido. N'Kome got the only goal late in the first half. Meanwhile challengers Cádiz and Alavés cancelled each other out with a 1-1 draw.

The big match at midday was the Canary Island derby between hosts Tenerife and visitors Las Palmas, which the locals ended up winning 2-0 to move temporarily out of the relegation zone. They were back in it again though by the evening after Leganés beat Terrassa 1-0 and cash-strapped Xerez won 0-1 at Ciudad Murcia. Rayo Vallecano are only a point outside of the bottom four after they threw away a one goal lead to lose 2-1 at Elche. (07.03.04)

Second placed Levante were beaten 2-0 by Eibar, who close up to within three points of the promotion spots as a result. Getafe are still two points above them though after they beat bottom club Algeciras 3-0, a result which provoked the resignation of manager Iosu Ortuondo. Elsewhere Recreativo Huelva recorded their sixteenth draw of the season after a 0-0 result at Málaga B, and Almería and Córdoba also ended all square at 1-1. (06.03.04)
