Spain 2 - Denmark 0

Just about the last chance for Spain to try out new players before the Euro 2004 squad is announced, and Iñaki Sáez took full advantage in this friendly game with Denmark to do just that. The manager put out a starting line up consisting almost entirely of second choice players, reserving his big names for the second half. The most interesting selection was the choice of Salva and Morientes up front, and it was Morientes who opened the scoring with an excellent header from Capdevila's cross midway through the half. Fernando Torres and Raúl took over the strikers' roles at the break, and the two combined for Torres to shake off two defenders and cross in for the Real Madrid captain to poke home his 38th goal for his country on the hour mark. Other than the goals though there was little to shout about, and Sáez will probably have to try out his first choice line up in their next friendly against Italy at the end of April. (31.03.04)
