Second division, week 33

Numancia increased their lead at the top of the second division to four points after beating Ciudad Murcia 0-2, Antonio and Xisco getting the goals late in the second half. Second placed Levante were beaten 3-2 earlier in the day by Alavés, who are now just two points behind their opponents. Edu Alonso got two of the goals and made the third for the Vitoria based side. Getafe lost ground on the leaders after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Xerez, and Recreativo moved up to sixth place after a 3-1 win over Salamanca, Uche scoring the first two goals.

Las Palmas are in deeper trouble after they lost 2-0 to bottom club Algeciras, their fourth manager of the season Henri Stambouli watching from the stands. Málaga B and Poli Ejido did themselves no favours with a 0-0 draw, and Ejido's neighbours Almería are also closer to the relegation spots after they were beaten 0-2 by Terrassa. (18.04.04)

Sporting Gijón consolidated third place in the table after beating struggling Rayo Vallecano 3-1. Miguel scored twice to give them victory and send their opponents back down into the relegation zone. Tenerife meanwhile moved clear of the bottom four, Keko's two goals enough to beat Elche 2-1 and take them above four teams, including Leganés who drew 1-1 at Eibar. Elsewhere Cádiz lost more ground on the leaders after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Córdoba. (17.04.04)
