Second division, week 34

Only four points separate the top four sides at the end of the weekend after leaders Numancia fell to a 2-3 defeat at the hands of Eibar. The Soria based side were in the lead before Saizar and Brit scored for the visitors. A hat-trick from Reggi in a 3-1 win over bottom club Algeciras helped Levante take advantage and move back to within a point of the top, and Sporting Gijón are out of the top three after they lost 2-1 to Elche earlier in the day, Alavés taking their place in the promotion spots.

The bottom spots are also very tight, and there are only three points between twentieth placed Rayo Vallecano and fourteenth placed Córdoba, who lost 3-0 at Salamanca. Raúl Sánchez got two of the goals for the home side taking him to the top of the Pichichi table. Málaga B moved to within a point of safety after they defeated Terrassa 0-1, and Poli Ejido moved two points clear of the bottom four with a 0-0 draw against Getafe. (25.04.04)

With the top three all playing on Sunday, Alavés took advantage to move up to second place after coming from behind to beat Xerez 1-2. Rubén Navarro got the winner with a late free kick. Recreativo kept their faint hopes of promotion alive with a 0-4 win over struggling Las Palmas, all the goals coming in the last half hour, including three in three minutes. The Canary Islanders sink further into the drop zone, as do Rayo Vallecano, who were held at home to a 1-1 draw in a bad tempered match with Almería. Three players were sent off, and the visitors equalised from a hotly disputed free kick in injury time. Leganés and Tenerife both kept themselves just above the danger zone after drawing 0-0, and Cádiz came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Ciudad Murcia. (24.04.04)
