European Under-17 Championship

Spain 1 - Turkey 0

Spain got off to a winning start in their opening match of this year's European tournament, their 1-0 victory over Turkey setting them up for a possible place in the semi-finals. Juan Santiesteban's side were on top in the first half, with Albacete's César and Villarreal's Marcos going close. And with the first half coming to an end a terrible mistake by Turkish keeper Babacan let in Marcos to score into the empty net. However Turkey came back after the break, and Real Madrid goalkeeper Adán had to be at his best to keep his side in front. Spain's next match is in two days time against hosts France, who beat Northern Ireland 3-0 in their opening game (04.05.04)
