Algeciras. Spain's under 17 side failed to qualify tonight for the European finals after drawing 1-1 with Russia, and everything will now be decided in the last round of matches on Wednesday. Juan Santiesteban's side took the lead just after the quarter hour mark when Gerard picked up a pass from Pepe to beat the Russian keeper, but the East Europeans came back with a goal from Gavriuk on the stroke of half time. Substitute Javi García hit the woodwork after the break, but Adán had to save from Samsonov near the end to preserve the result.

Spain and Russia will battle it out on Wednesday in their respective matches against Hungary and the Czech Republic, and if both win then the group will be decided on the better goal difference. Spain will be starting with a two goal advantage though, and on paper at least have the easier opponents, Hungary having lost both their games so far.
