Los Barrios, Algeciras. Spain's under 17 side stormed through to the European finals with a resounding victory over Hungary. Vying with Russia for top spot, Juan Santiestaban's side needed a big win to ensure their passage to France in May. And despite their early domination, it took them almost half an hour to open the scoring, Pepe getting the goal after Cesc's free kick came back off the defensive wall. The East Europeans got back in the game though when Rezes beat Real Sociedad's Riesgo on the stroke of half time to level the scores, and when the teams went in at the break with Russia (then winning against the Czech Republic) at the top of the group.

The manager brought on Javi García at the break though, and the young Real Madrid forward scored twice in ten minutes, the first a header from Carmona's cross and the second after a centre from Sevilla's Capel. Arsenal midfielder Cesc added a fourth from the penalty spot after Capel was brought down, and Carmona got on the end of Cristian's pass to make it five. And Capel rounded off an excellent night with an individualist sixth goal, leaving four demoralized defenders for dead before beating Tolka. Russia could do no better than beat the Czechs 1-0, and Spain qualify for the finals with a far superior goal average.
