Mallorca should have no trouble progressing to the next round after a 1-2 win against Apoel in Nicosia. With the match played in sweltering conditions, Jaime Pacheco was taking no chances and put out his best side. Leo Franco was called into action early on to save from Papandreon, but midway through the first half home grown midfielder Toni González headed his side into the lead, his first goal for the first team. And Eto'o could also have got his name on the scoresheet in the first half if the referee had not disallowed his goal for a borderline offside.

The Cypriots didn't give up though, and almost immediately after the restart Papandreon made it all square with a header from close up. The Spaniards were ever the better side though, and Bruggink restored the lead a few minutes later after half time substitute Nené set him up. They could not add to their lead though despite intense pressure in the last half hour, but the result should be enough to see them comfortably through next month.
