Goals: None.

A disappointing start for Deportivo, who were held to a scoreless draw at the Riazor stadium by Olympiakos. With several key players out injured including Tristán, Mauro Silva, Duscher and Víctor, Irureta put out a makeshift side, but even so they should have done better against what is on paper the weakest team in their group.

Ex Depor players Schürrer and Rivaldo were welcomed back by the fans, but it was Rivaldo who came closest to scoring with a spectacular overhead kick in the first half. Cesar headed a long free kick just wide at the other end, but Molina almost gave a goal away near the break, failing to hold on to Rivaldo's free kick and having to recover quickly to block Schürrer's follow up.

And there was even less action after the restart, the only attempts at goal a dangerous run down the right wing by Rivaldo and a speculative shot by Munitis straight at the keeper late on. One of the poorest displays by the Galicians in a long time in Europe, and they will have to buck their ideas up for their next matches against Monaco and Liverpool if they are to stay in the competition.
