European Champions League 2004/2005

Final round

The final this year will be played in Istanbul on 25th May between Liverpool, who beat fellow countrymen Chelsea in their semi-final, and AC Milan, victors over PSV Eindhoven in the other tie. Spanish interest has been maintained by the presence of Liverpool coach Rafa Benítez and a squad which includes the likes of Luis García, Xabi Alonso and Antonio Nuñez. (05.05.05)

In one of the most exciting finals in the history of the competition, Liverpool won the Champions League title on a penalty shoot out. Rafa Benítez's side were three down at the break, but they fought back with goals from Gerard, Smicer and Spain's Xabi Alonso to level the scores and take the game to extra time. With no further goals in the next 30 minutes the game went to penalties. Dudek saved twice, including a last spot kick from Shevchenko, to win the game. (25.05.05)
