Pre-season matches

Just two weeks to go now until the league season kicks off in Spain, and everybody is looking forward to getting started as soon as possible. In the meantime though the friendly tournaments continue, with last week's biggest events centred in La Coruña and Cádiz. In the Riazor stadium, hosts Deportivo proved better than Atlético Madrid to hold on to their own trophy, and a hot looking Sevilla side won the Ramón de Carranza tournament after beating Valencia in their final. The most prestigious summer tournament this week is Recreativo's Colombino cup, with invited guests Betis, Real Sociedad and Málaga. Official domestic competitions kick off at the weekend though, with the first leg of the Supercup between Spanish cup winners Zaragoza and league champions Valencia. (16.08.04)
