Spanish Supercup, first leg

The official season in Spain began with the first leg of the Supercup between last season's league champions Valencia and cup winners Zaragoza. The visitors had the better of the first half, with Angulo hitting the bar close to the break, and Vicente gave them the lead on the hour mark when he beat keeper Luis García with a well struck free kick. Cani came close to equalising when he hit the bar with a long effort near the end, but it was Ranieri's side who took the spoils and who should wrap up the first trophy of the season in the second leg next Tuesday.
