Second division, day 2

The score-less draws came back with a vengeance in the second division, with no less than four of Sunday's eight games ending without goals and one other match tied 1-1. That left Valladolid and Celta alone at the top, and Terrassa, Eibar, Xerez, Poli Ejido and Recreativo all two points behind them. Córdoba, Málaga B, Pontevedra, Alavés and Salamanca all picked up their first point.

Sporting Gijón, Almería and Lleida all recorded their first wins of the season, curiously all away from home. Sporting won 1-3 at Real Murcia, who find themselves down at the bottom of the league table without a point to their name together with Cádiz, who lost 0-2 at home to Lleida. Almería won 0-1 at Racing Ferrol, leaving both sides mid-table on three points. (05.09.04)

Valladolid moved to the top of the table after beating Tenerife 2-1, their second win in a row. Both goals were scored by Aduriz, who now has five for the season. Celta joined Valladolid on six points after a 1-0 victory over Gimnastic Tarragona on a rainy night in Vigo. The visitors held on with ten men for most of the second half, but late substitute Nagore got the only goal from a free kick with two minutes to go. And in the third match played on Saturday evening, Elche got their first points on the board with a 3-1 win over Ciudad Murcia. (04.09.04)
