Second division, day 5

The second division continues to be a dour struggle as always, with a change in the top spots once again and only 17 goals being scored in the eleven games. Incredibly, the highest score of the weekend was Terrassa's 2-1 win over Valladolid on Sunday lunchtime, taking them up to second in the table, a point behind Xerez. Veteran forward Juanele got one of the goals as the Catalans came from behind. Lleida had a chance to go top if they had beaten Poli Ejido later in the day, but their 0-1 defeat leaves them out of the top three to be replaced by their opponents.

Eibar move up level with Terrassa and Ejido after a 1-0 win over Córdoba, Varela getting the only goal late on. Recreativo failed to keep up with the leaders though after they lost 0-1 to Racing Ferrol, their ex striker Mario Bermejo getting the only goal, and Sporting also missed out when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cádiz.

Córdoba's defeat at Eibar means they only have one point to their name in five matches, and they foot the table together with Real Murcia, who at least got their first point on the board after Mariano Fernández cancelled out a strike by Vryzas late on in a 1-1 draw against Celta. And Salamanca beat Almería 0-1 to record their first win, although it was not enough to get them out of the relegation zone. (26.09.04)

Three of Saturday's four games ended in 1-1 draws, with leaders Xerez being held at home by Elche, Alavés scraping in to the top three after drawing against Ciudad Murcia, and Pontevedra and Tenerife sharing the points in their match. Málaga B moved out of the relegation zone to the detriment of their opponents Nàstic after beating them 0-2 in Tarragona. (25.09.04)
