Poli Ejido are the surprise new leaders after beating their neighbours Almería 2-0 on Sunday evening. Last week's top side Xerez drop to third after drawing 1-1 at Valladolid, and Terrassa drop out of the promotion spots completely after losing 2-1 at Tenerife, who draw level with them on points. Elche move up to fourth after a 1-0 win over Eibar, and Racing Ferrol are equal with them on points after defeating bottom side Real Murcia 3-1. Two other newly promoted sides also won, Pontevedra beating Ciudad Murcia 2-3 and Nàstic winning 0-1 at Salamanca to move out of the relegation spots. And on Sunday lunchtime, Cádiz and Recreativo cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw. (03.10.04)

Lleida moved back to the top of the second division pending Sunday's games after beating Córdoba 0-1. Arnal scored the only goal of the game after a mistake by keeper Jauregui, and Armentano missed a penalty which could have saved a point for the home side after the break. The result probably signals the end of the road for Córdoba's manager Esteban Vigo. Meanwhile Celta and Alavés cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw in the other game on Saturday evening. Vryzas scored twice in the first quarter of an hour for the locals, but Navarro and De Lucas made it all square before the break. (02.10.04)
