Second division, day 16

Cádiz moved three points clear at the top of the table after a 0-1 win at Valladolid on Sunday lunchtime, Jonathan Sesma getting the only goal against the run of play with a shot which was deflected in by his namesake Jonathan ten minutes from the end. Later in the day Alavés won by the same scoreline at Poli Ejido to hold on to third spot, Bodipo scoring in the second half after the locals had been reduced to ten men when keeper Kike was sent off.

Elche stay in fourth position, just a point behind Alavés, after beating Málaga B 2-1. Despite the result it was a comfortable win, Moisés and Rubén getting the goals either side of half time before their opponents pulled one back later on. And Lleida are sixth after they ended Almería's nine game unbeaten run, Txema heading the only goal in a 1-0 victory. Celta failed to keep up with the leaders though after they drew 2-2 at Ciudad Murcia, although they did come back from two goals down to save a point in the end.

Down at the bottom of the table, Córdoba picked up their sixth point of the season with a 0-0 draw against Salamanca, although it was not enough to stop them slipping even further away from safety. The two sides immediately above them, Pontevedra and Real Murcia, played each other and seemed to be heading to a scoreless draw until Varela got an injury time winner for the East coast side. And a first half strike from Rodri gave Terrassa a much needed 1-0 victory over Recreativo, taking them away from the danger zone. (12.12.04)

Second placed Eibar were beaten 0-2 at home by Nàstic on Saturday evening, their first home defeat of the season. Both goals came in the second half, Pinilla putting the Catalans ahead from the penalty spot on the hour mark and Cuéllar adding a second in injury time with the hosts down to ten men. Xerez moved back up to the top three pending Sunday's games, a Roteta goal early in the second half giving them a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijón. And Tenerife and Racing Ferrol cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw, Flavio saving a point for the Galicians after Fagiani had opened the scoring from the penalty spot. (11.12.04)
