Second division, day 26

Celta moved to the top of the table after beating Real Murcia 1-0, their fifth win in a row. Once again Canobbio got the only goal of the game, this time midway through the second half. Earlier in the day Elche were beaten by Xerez, who move up to within three points of the promotion spots. Lekic and Camuñas got the goals for the Andalusians after Moisés had put the locals in front from the penalty spot. Elche hold on to third spot though as their closest rivals Eibar didn't play, their game at Córdoba called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Valladolid also failed to take advantage when they were pegged back to 2-2 by Terrassa after young substitute Alvaro had put them two up. But Recreativo are back in the promotion race after a controversial 0-1 win at Racing Ferrol, where the referee had to be given a police escort off the pitch. They move up to fifth, just two points behind Elche and one above Alavés, who lost 2-0 at Ciudad Murcia for their fifth defeat in a row. Just three points now separate six teams fighting for the last promotion spot.

And down in the lower reaches, Salamanca moved away from the drop zone after beating Almería 3-2. Brit scored two of the goals, and Aurelio got the other with a shot from inside his own half. Almería's neighbours Poli Ejido also climbed away from the danger area with a 2-0 win over Lleida. And Pontevedra held off Tenerife to pick up a point in a 0-0 draw, taking them off the bottom of the table above Córdoba. (27.02.05)

First placed Cádiz were held to a 0-0 draw by Sporting Gijón in one of only two games which took place on Saturday evening. Both sides had several chances in a lively game, but keepers Armando and Roberto came out on top. Nàstic moved up to ninth pending Sunday's games, just six points off the promotion spots, after beating Málaga B 0-1. Sergio Francisco got the only goal two minutes from the end. (26.02.05)
