Champions League, second round second leg

Juventus 2 - Real Madrid 0 (after extra time)

La Liga's last representative in the Champions League Real Madrid were beaten by Juventus on Wednesday night, and for the first time in twelve years there will be no Spanish side in the quarter final draw. Defending a one goal lead from the first leg, Luxemburgo's team held on in the Delle Alpi stadium until a quarter of an hour from the end of the regular ninety minutes. However substitute Trezeguet hooked a spectacular overhead kick past Casillas after Ibrahimovic had headed back a Camoranesi cross to take the tie into an exciting extra time. Both sides had their chances, and a clash near the end between Ronaldo and Tacchinardi left both teams with ten men. But with a penalty shoot out on the cards, Zalayeta latched on to a poor clearance from Raúl Bravo to fire a low shot past Casillas and take his side through to the last eight. (09.03.05)

Chelsea 4 - Barcelona 2

A fantastic match at Stamford Bridge, where Barcelona bowed out of the competition after losing 4-2 against Chelsea. Despite Barça's 2-1 lead from the first leg, the game appeared to be over within twenty minutes when Mourinho's side raced in to a three goal lead, Gudjohnsen starting things off early on after collecting Kezman's cross to beat Víctor Valdés. Lampard got a second on the follow up after Valdés could only push out Joe Cole's deflected shot, and Duff made it three two minutes later after Cole put him through. But Frank Rijkaard's team were awarded a hotly disputed penalty by referee Pierluigi Collina after Ferreira handled in the area, and Ronaldinho stepped up to convert the kick. And before half time Ronaldinho put his side ahead in the tie after catching out Cech with an unexpected shot from the edge of the area. Cole hit the post before the break, but the Catalans could have settled it when Cech stopped a Puyol header on the line after the restart, and Iniesta hit the post a few minutes later. But with a quarter of an hour to go Terry got on the end of a corner to head the winner, Collina turning down Barça's protests that Carvalho had impeded Valdés. Chelsea go through to the last eight, and Barcelona go home ruing their missed chances. (08.03.05)
