UEFA Cup, fourth round first leg

A strike fifteen minutes from the end by Savio gave Zaragoza a valuable 1-1 draw in their first leg tie at Austria Vienna. The match was almost postponed due to the heavy snow which had fallen in the Austrian capital, and only the insistence of the two teams convinced the referee to carry on. But conditions were difficult, and the locals took the lead around the half hour mark when Milito slipped on the icy surface, allowing Rushfeldt to volley past Luis García. However Savio picked up a pass from Soriano after the break to fire a shot in off the post and give his side the advantage for next week's second leg.

Sevilla were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw though by Parma, and now face a tricky visit to Italy next week. The Andalusians had the best of the play, Jesuli forcing a good save out of Frey, Antoñito, Alfaro and Makukula going close and Jesús Navas hitting the post near the end. But they were unable to make the breakthrough, and now need a scoredraw at least if they are to make it through to the quarter finals.

The match between Steaua Bucharest and Villarreal was called off at the last minute as a snowstorm made play impossible. The fixture has been rescheduled for next Wednesday, with the return leg taking place the Sunday afterwards. Villarreal's league match with Osasuna will be postponed as a result. (10.03.05)
