Second division, day 28

Eibar beat Valladolid 1-2 on Sunday lunchtime to move up to second place, just three points behind leaders Celta. Jairo had given the home side the lead early on, but strikes from David Silva and Llorente turned the scoreline around. Meanwhile Cádiz were defeated 0-1 by a Real Murcia side who climb out of the relegation positions for the first time in 60 weeks thanks to an injury time goal by Carrera. The Andalusians have only picked up three points from their last four games, and have to visit Celta next weekend.

Elche took advantage to move to within a point of Cádiz after beating Lleida 2-1, although they left it late to do so. Moisés got both of their goals in the last five minutes of the match, the second from the penalty spot. Elsewhere a single goal from Azkorra took Recreativo up to fifth with a 0-1 win at Málaga B, and Alavés got back on winning ways after six defeats in a row, beating bottom club Pontevedra 1-3 with two goals from Rubén Navarro.

Salamanca's new coach Andoni Goikoetxea got off to a good start, his side's 2-1 win over Sporting Gijón moving them away from the relegation zone. A defeat would have left them in the bottom four after Ciudad Murcia beat Terrassa 2-0, a result which curiously takes Ciudad out of the drop zone on the same day their city rivals did so as well. Terrassa ended the weekend in the relegation spots though, as did Almería who were beaten 3-0 by a Córdoba side who have still not given up hope of salvation. (13.03.05)

Celta increased their lead at the top of the table to six points pending Sunday's matches after beating neighbours Racing Ferrol 1-2, their seventh win in a row. Angel headed the winner from Jandro's corner near the end, even though his side were playing with ten men by then after Berizzo was sent off. Canobbio had given Fernando Vázquez's side the lead early on before Bermejo equalised from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time. Xerez and Nàstic both lost ground on the leaders though after they lost their respective games 1-0, Xerez falling to a Keko goal at Tenerife and Nàstic losing at Poli Ejido thanks to a strike from Pedro Vega.
