UEFA Cup, fourth round second leg

Villarreal saved the day for Spanish football, beating Steaua Bucharest 2-0 in their second leg match to go through to a quarter final tie with Alkmaar. The Spaniards were the only side remaining from La Liga in either of the European competitions, and with a score-less draw from their delayed first leg match midweek they were hopeful of victory. José Marí gave them an early lead when he headed Riquelme's corner down through the legs of the keeper, and his side could have scored again before the break as they dominated the rest of the first half. Riquelme made it two though with a twice taken penalty after Cazorla was brought down on the hour mark, and after that there was no way back for the Romanians. (20.03.05)
