Second division, day 33

Surprises at the top of the table, where none of the top three clubs managed to win. The biggest shock of all though came at the Balaidos stadium, where leaders Celta were beaten 0-1 by bottom side Córdoba. Cristian Alvarez got the only goal with a hotly disputed penalty in the second half to take his side above Pontevedra, and Fernando Vázquez's side ended with ten men after Nagore was sent off. Second placed Cádiz could only close up a point on the Galicians though after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Salamanca, a result which keeps Andoni Goikoetxea's team just above the relegation spots. The slip ups by the teams above them was good news for Recreativo, who moved to within a point of the promotion places after beating Valladolid 2-0 on Sunday lunchtime, a Jonathan own goal and a strike from Xavi Jiménez enough to give them the three points.

Alavés made it a five team race for the top three berths though after coming from behind to beat Málaga B 3-1 later in the evening. Bodipo, Nené (from the penalty spot) and De Lucas got the goals to take their side level with Recreativo and send the Andalusians down into the bottom four. Ciudad Murcia moved above José María Bakero's team thanks to a better goal difference after taking a point from a 0-0 draw at Nàstic. And Racing Ferrol moved clear of the danger zone with a 2-0 win against Poli Ejido, top scorer Bermejo getting his 22nd of the season as the naval port side recorded their third victory in a row. Third placed Eibar failed to capitalize on an early start after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Xerez. Mendilibar's side are still sure of a place in the promotion spots by the end of the weekend though as the result took them four points above the teams immediately below them. Elche lost ground on the leaders after they were beaten 1-0 by Real Murcia later in the evening. Iván Alonso's second half strike took the home side out of the relegation spots, leaving their city rivals Ciudad Murcia in the bottom four pending their game on Sunday.

Almería also moved away from the danger zone after beating Pontevedra 1-0. A last minute goal from Sahnoun gave Paco Flores his second win since taking over, and put an end to the Galicians' brief revival. Terrassa sink further down into the bottom four though after they were beaten 4-2 by Catalan neighbours Lleida, Sergio Rodríguez getting the first two for the locals. And Sporting Gijón and Tenerife cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw which leaves both sides safely in mid-table. (16.04.05)
