World Cup 2006 - Qualifying match

Spain 1 - Bosnia Herzegovina 1

A last second goal from Valencia's Marchena saved a point for Spain against Bosnia in their World Cup qualifying match. Luis Aragonés's side spent most of the opening minutes in the East Europeans' half of the field but were unable to find the route to goal, and their opponents took the lead shortly before the break when a poor clearance was played back for Misimovic to round Casillas and score. With Puyol and Torres both off injured before the break, the manager brought on Xabi Alonso for his last change on the hour mark. But still there was no way through until the sixth minute of injury time, when Bosnia were down to nine men after Halilovic and Beslija were sent off. Alonso played a speculative ball into the box, and Juanito headed on for Raúl to set up Marchena for the equaliser, taking their side a point clear of Serbia at the top of the table.. (08.06.05)
