Under 17 XXXI Atlantic
International Cup
25-28 January 2005. Whilst
the new under 16 squad were playing in Portugal, last year's group graduated to
the under 17 level and kicked off with an invitation tournament in the Canary
Islands. In the end though Spain could only finish runners up to the
Czech Republic, with the Canary Island regional selection
finishing a surprising third ahead of Greece. Juan Santiesteban's side's
first tie was against the Greek team, a match which they won 3-1 thanks to
goals from Montejo, Bueno and Adrián. However in their second game they
were held to a 0-0 draw by the Canary Islands, even though the hosts played
half the match with ten men after Raúl Suárez was sent off
shortly before the interval. And they could only draw 1-1 in their last fixture
against the Czech Republic, Bueno's equaliser after Pilik's early strike not
enough to take them above their opponents, who had won their first two games.
