Villarreal are on track for another good run in Europe after beating Hammarby 1-2. The match was moved to the nearby stadium of Solna as the ground of the Stockholm based side was not up to scratch, and a 12,000 crowd turned up to watch. Pellegrini was missing his first choice strike pairing of Anderson and Forlán, but Guayre stepped in and took the opportunity to make his claim for a more regular place in the side. The ex Las Palmas attacker put his side ahead early on after youngster Héctor Font set him up, and turned provider midway through the first half to set up a second goal for Gonzalo Rodríguez with Australian keeper Covic gone walk about.

The game seemed to be over, but only a minute later Runström pounced on a loose ball to beat Reina. That gave the Swedish side confidence, and for a quarter of an hour either side of half time the Spaniards were pushed back into their own half, Benchenaa in particular almost levelling the scores with a long shot which Reina pushed onto the outside of the post. But Villarreal won back control later on, and Guayre could have increased the lead in the dying minutes when his header was cleared off the line by Von Schlebrugge with the keeper beaten.
