Zaragoza are favourites to make it through their tie to the next round after beating Fenerbahçe 0-1 in Istanbul. Víctor Muñoz's defence looked shaky early on, with keeper Luis García failing to clear a couple of dead ball kicks, Fabio Luciano heading the first chance wide and Milito and Villa having to block shots from the Turkish side's new signing Nicolas Anelka. Selçuk could have done better before the break when he shot over the top after being given space on the ball.

Zaragoza's only real effort in the first forty five minutes was a shot just wide by Generelo, and the young midfielder was the only one to try his luck after the break, another effort just missing the post and a third forcing Rüstü to turn the ball away for a corner. Milito managed to cut out another attack from Anelka, and Luis García regained his confidence with saves from Nobre and Alex. And there was a nervous moment when Alex fell in the area under a challenge from Zapater, but the Danish referee ruled that the forward had dived.

A couple of minutes later though Zaragoza were in the lead, Savio surprising the defence playing a long free kick wide to Generelo, who fired the ball across goal. David Villa appeared to get a touch on, and there was Alvaro to turn the ball in on the far post. Luis García had to keep out efforts from Fabio Luciano and Servet after that, but Villa could have wrapped things up had been able to find Galletti on a rapid breakaway in injury time. A great result though, and the Spaniards should have done enough to reach the last 16, where they could meet fellow countrymen Athletic Bilbao.
