Sevilla are out of the UEFA cup after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Parma. With a goal-less draw in the first leg a week ago, the Andalusians needed at least a score draw to go through to the quarter finals for the first time in their history. And they almost went ahead when Adriano curled a free kick against the bar on the quarter hour mark. Four minutes later though Cardone scored what was to prove the only goal of the tie after the ball fell at his feet following a corner.

Local keeper Bucci kept out efforts from Baptista, Renato and Navas before the break as the Spaniards threw everything forward. Grella could have increased the lead after the restart when Esteban kept him out, but Baptista went close a couple of times in a frantic last few minutes. In the end though they could not find a way through a well ordered defence, and they bow out of the competition without scoring a single goal in 180 minutes of football. It was a sad end for Joaquín Caparrós's side in their centenary year, and they now have to pick themselves up after what was their eighth game in a row without a win.
