UEFA 2004/2005

Quarter final round

In what is proving to be one of the worst ever seasons for Spanish football in Europe, Villarreal were the only La Liga side to make it through to the quarter final draw. They still have to play their second leg match from the previous round though after their first game against Steaua Bucharest was postponed. If they do get through they will meet Holland's revelation side Alkmaar for a place in the semi finals, where they are then scheduled to play the winner of the tie between Newcastle and Sporting Lisbon. (18.03.05)

Villarreal saved the day for Spain, beating Steaua Bucharest to become La Liga's only representative in European competitions at the quarter final stage. (20.03.05)
