Two goals from Oliveira took Betis through to a first ever appearance in the first round of the Champions League. With a one goal lead from the first leg, the Andalusians looked to be well on their way when the Brazilian striker headed home Xisco's cross on the quarter hour mark.

But ex Barcelona midfielder Gerard levelled the scores with a shot into the top corner of the net a few minutes later, and the French league side had a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty after Evra was fouled in the area. Doblas guessed correctly and saved Meriem's spot kick, but substitute Maoulida came on to head the locals into the lead after the restart.

One more would have condemned Betis to a consolation place in the UEFA cup, but Oliveira popped up again fifteen minutes from the end to fight his way past three defenders and shoot wide of Warmuz to put the result beyond the reach of the team managed by ex Chelsea and Valencia player Didier Deschamps.
