0-1. 68. Oliveira. Latched on to Joaquín's pass to fire low shot past keeper.

Betis got their first win in the competition, Oliveira getting the only goal in the second half to beat Anderlecht 0-1. After their defeat against Liverpool in their opening match, Serra Ferrer's side needed a victory to get back in the hunt. And although they had an early scare when Jestrovic hit the bar, the Spaniards were by far the better side throughout the first half. Oliveira hit the post himself soon after Jestrovic's strike, and local keeper Proto proved why so many clubs tried to sign him this summer with a string of excellent saves, in particular an effort from Miguel Angel which he tipped on to the bar and further strikes from Varela, Oliveira, Rivera and Xisco. And with the first half coming to an end, Joaquín rattled the woodwork for a third time with a well struck free kick.

Things changed full circle though after the break, and with the rain coming down Doblas was called upon to keep out efforts from Jestrovic, Mpenza and Goor. However Oliveira hit the post yet again with another free kick, and a few minutes later the Brazilian striker finally got the goal Betis were looking for when he picked up a pass from Joaquín to beat Proto. That was enough to win it, although it could have been a bigger margin had substitute Fernando not hit the post for a fifth time when free on goal near the end. Betis are still in with a chance of qualifying, and with a double header with Chelsea coming up next the fun is just beginning.
