Spanish international squad

Luis Aragonés's squad for next Wednesday's friendly against Uruguay in Gijón has a distinctly English look about it. The Spanish coach included four players from Liverpool and one from Chelsea, with Morientes returning to the squad after an absence of a year to join his team mates Reina, Xabi Alonso and Luis García as well as Mourinho's new signing Del Horno. With Albelda suspended for the key match against Serbia in three weeks' time and Baraja and Orbaiz both injured, Deportivo's Sergio was also given a recall. The full list is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Casillas (Real Madrid), Reina (Liverpool);
Defenders: Del Horno (Chelsea), Antonio López and Pablo (Atlético Madrid), Puyol (Barcelona), Juanito (Betis), Michel Salgado (Real Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Sevilla), Marchena (Valencia);
Midfielders: Xavi (Barcelona), Joaquín (Betis), Luque and Sergio (Deportivo), De la Peña (Espanyol), Luis García and Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Albelda and Vicente (Valencia);
Forwards: Fernando Torres (Atlético Madrid), Tamudo (Espanyol), Morientes (Liverpool), Raúl (Real Madrid).

As well as the World cup qualifier against Serbia in Atlético Madrid's Vicente Calderón stadium on 7th September, Spain will also be playing Canada in a friendly at Santander four days earlier. (11.08.05)

PS Víctor Valdés has been called up for a first cap to replace the injured Casillas. (15.08.05)
