Second division, day 8

Xerez increased their lead at the top of the table after coming from behind to beat second placed Tenerife 3-1 on Sunday lunchtime. Dani Pendín, Camuñas nd Geijo got the goals after Fagiani had given the Canary Islanders the lead from the penalty spot. Later in the evening Real Murcia moved up to second after beating struggling Lleida 2-0, Samuel scoring a first half penalty and Richi adding a second after the break. Hércules are up to fifth, just a point outside the top three after a 2-1 win over Ciudad Murcia, and Lorca are a point behind them after Gorka De Carlos scored twice in a 1-2 win at Castilla, a result which was still just good enough to take the Real Madrid B team out of the relegation spots above Lleida. Elsewhere Numancia climbed away from the danger zone with a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijón, and Almería and Eibar shared the points in a 1-1 draw. (16.10.05)

Recreativo and Valladolid both failed to take advantage of early kick-offs, and ended the day still outside of the top three spots after drawing their respective matches. Recreativo were held 2-2 by Poli Ejido, even though Uche twice gave them the lead, and Valladolid were unable to do more than draw 0-0 at bottom club Castellón. Levante also drew 0-0 at Málaga B and they too failed to return to the promotion spots. Elche though move above the Valencia based side after beating Albacete 1-2, Nino and Frankowski getting their goals, and Racing Ferrol move out of the relegation spots after beating Nàstic by the same score. Curiously there were no home wins in any of the eight games played on Saturday in the top two flights. (15.10.05)
