Second division, day 13

Xerez opened up a five point gap at the top of the table after beating Levante 2-3 on Sunday lunchtime. The Andalusians took the lead twice through Castaño and Geijo, but Riga and then Congo equalised before Geijo got the winner midway through the second half. Second placed Recreativo lost ground after drawing 0-0 at Nàstic, although they were happy to come away with a point after having a man sent off in the second half. Their closest rivals fared no better though, Real Murcia being held to a 1-1 draw by Castilla, and Hércules being hammered 4-0 by Lorca, curiously the only home win of the weekend in the second division.

The bottom four clubs at the start of the day played each other in a dramatic weekend for the relegation places. Numancia climbed back out of the drop zone with a 0-1 win over Poli Ejido, thanks to an own goal by Calado in the first half. Ejido (who changed their manager midweek) are now bottom of the table after Castellón took a point from Racing Ferrol in a 1-1 draw. Lleida drop back in to the relegation zone, but Eibar are only one place above them after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Ciudad Murcia. Málaga B move away from the danger area though after an injury time goal from Saúl gave them a 0-1 victory over Albacete. (20.11.05)

Only three matches in the second division on Saturday night, with third placed Valladolid being held to a 1-1 draw by Tenerife. Maikel opened the scoring for the Canary Islanders, but Llorente levelled the scores just before the break. Promotion candidates Elche and Almería cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw, and Sporting Gijón closed up on the teams above them after beating Lleida 0-1, Pablo Alvarez getting the only goal from the penalty spot early on.
