Champions League, quarter final, first leg

Inter Milan 2 - Villarreal 1

The match between Inter Milan and Villarreal is in the balance after the Italian side came from behind to beat the plucky Spaniards 2-1. With less than two minutes on the clock the visitors had helped themselves to a vital away goal, Forlán beating Toldo after the keeper could only push out a shot from José Marí. Adriano equalised six minutes later though after a mistake by Peña, and soon after the restart Martins made it two from Stankovic's cross. Riquelme hit the bar from a free kick later in the half, but in the end both sides settled for the result. (29.03.06)

Benfica 0 - Barcelona 0

Barcelona missed out on the chance to wrap up the tie in the first leg after wasting several clear cut chances before drawing 0-0 at Benfica, but even so they have the upper hand going in to the return fixture next week. Van Bommel and Eto'o in particular failed to beat keeper Moretto when free in front of goal in the first half, and Larsson and Motta both hit the post after the restart. But Víctor Valdés also had some work to do in a lively match, and Frank Rijkaard's side were lucky to be let off a couple of penalty appeals in the closing minutes. (28.03.06)
