Champions League, semi finals first leg

Arsenal 1 - Villarreal 0

Villarreal have an uphill battle if they are to win through to the final after losing 1-0 at Arsenal. It was the English side's last European game in the Highbury stadium, and they thought they had gone ahead when Henry got the ball in the net early on only for it to be ruled out for a borderline offside. Touré did beat Barbosa though shortly before the break after Henry and Hleb combined to set him up, but José Marí thought he should have had a penalty when Gilberto brought him down soon afterwards. AC Milan 0 - Barcelona 1

Barcelona took a giant step towards the Champions League final with a 0-1 win against AC Milan. The Italians had not lost in the San Siro stadium since 2003, and they almost went ahead when Gilardino hit the post in the first half. But Ronaldinho put Giuly through after the break for him to fire a left foot shot past Dida, and Frank Rijkaard's side could have increased the lead when Ronaldinho poked a shot against the post a few minutes later.
