Spanish international squad

Spanish coach Luis Aragonés called up 27 players for another informal get together next week, from whom he is expected to pick his final World Cup squad of 23. The surprise if any was the omission of Getafe's Argentinian left back Mario Pernía, who has just been granted dual Spanish citizenship and who everybody thought would be in the squad. Aragonés has also decided not to include Valencia's Vicente due to a long standing ankle injury which he has still not shaken off, and has also left out De la Peña as well as Melli, Oubiña, Gavilán and Cani, who were all in the previous meeting. All indications are that Javi Venta, Capdevila, Marchena and Baraja will be the four players who will not be going to Germany. (05.05.06)
