Spain ensured themselves a
place in the semi-finals of the tournament with a 3-0 win over Russia. Both
sides had won their opening matches, and honours were shared in a physical
first half. But the introduction of Bojan Krkic at half time changed things,
the 15 year old striker setting up Rubén for him to shoot wide, and then
laying on a pass for Aarón to put his side ahead.
A few minutes later
Aarón crossed in for Cristian Vergara to fire in a shot which was
cleared from behind the line by a defender. Bojan knocked in the rebound just
to be sure, but the referee awarded the goal to his fellow Barcelona team mate.
The Russians were left with ten men when Vlasov limped off with all three
substitutions made, and Villarreal's Marcos Gullón took advantage to add
a third after the keeper could only push out Bojan's free kick.
