Spain finished third in this year's European Championship after beating Germany in the consolation play-off. Both coaches gave run outs to their lesser used players, but there was little action until after the break when half time substitute Bojan Krkic latched on to a quickly taken free kick to score his fifth of the tournament. Germany equalised though ten minutes later when Fischer (who also came on at the break) picked up a pass from Gebhart to get his fifth goal as well. Krkic went close on a couple of occasions in extra time, but the game went to a penalty shoot out where Atlético Madrid's Jesús Coca saved three spot kicks to give his side the bronze medal. Russia won the final later in the evening, beating the Czech Republic in another penalty shoot out.
