Espanyol are a point away from reaching the third round of the competition after drawing 1-1 at Broendby. Lotina put out a strong side, with Kameni playing his first UEFA cup match in goal replacing Iraizoz, and Luis García and Tamudo both went close early on. But as the first half progressed Michael Laudrup's side took command, with Kameni saving well from Rasmussen and Retov shooting wide.

Three minutes before the break though the Catalans went ahead, Tamudo beating Ankergren after Luis García set him up. However Rasmussen hit the bar at the other end before the half time whistle, and Kameni was in action a couple of times after the restart before Retov also rattled the woodwork.

The Danish side eventually equalised when Skoubo's header was deflected off the head of Moisés Hurtado past Kameni, and Espanyol were left with ten men (and no manager) a few minutes later when Fredson was shown a red card for retaliating and Lotina followed him down the tunnel for protesting. Numbers were evened up soon afterwards though when Dan Johanssen was also sent for what looked like a punch at De la Peña, and the Spaniards held on for the draw. A point now at home against Petach Tikva in a fortnight's time will ensure them a place in the top three of their group.
