Copa del Rey, quarter final, first leg

City rivals Sevilla and Betis played out a gritty 0-0 draw in their first leg tie, a result which favours Luis Fernández's side. Whereas the home team put out their strongest line up, Fernández used the occasion to give a run out to some of his lesser used players, including two of his new signings Caffa and Ilic. Even so they held their own, and it was only in the last few minutes that they were put under real pressure by their hosts. (01.02.07)

Zaragoza have been making a bit of a habit of knocking Barcelona out of the cup in recent years, and they appear to be on the way to doing it once again after a 0-1 win in the Nou Camp. Sergio García hit the post in the first half, and Diogo got what was to prove the only goal of the game when he headed D'Alessandro's corner past Jorquera with a quarter of an hour to go.

Deportivo are close to another semi-final appearance after coming from a goal down to beat second division Valladolid 4-1. New signing Manchev put the visitors ahead midway through the first half, but the returning Pablo Alvarez and young substitute Rivera turned the scoreline around after the break, and Verdú and Juanma wrapped things up in the closing minutes.

Getafe are the team on form at the moment though, and they beat Osasuna for the second time in four days, this time by 3-0, to put a foot and a half in the semi-finals for the first time in their history. Güiza and Alexis headed them into a two goal lead at the interval, and a mistake by Ricardo gifted a third goal to Verpakovskis after the restart. (31.01.07)
