Second division - day 35

Valladolid celebrated their promotion with a 1-1 draw against third placed Real Murcia on Sunday lunchtime. Víctor put the locals ahead shortly before half time, but Iván Alonso saved a point for Lucas Alcaraz's side soon after the restart. The top three places are all but sure though, and for yet another week the teams behind them faltered. Salamanca were held to a 0-0 draw by an improving Málaga, and Numancia also drew 1-1 with Albacete, Azkorra cancelling out an early Julio Alvarez penalty.

Three of the four relegation spots appear to have nametags on them after Lorca lost 2-3 to Tenerife, substitute Angel completing his hat-trick for the Canary Islanders in injury time. And Ponferradina and Vecindario drew 3-3, a result which, in spite of the entertainment value, left both clubs further down in the bottom four. The last spot is wide open though, with nine teams separated by just five points with seven games still to go. Castilla are the current incumbents however after they were beaten 2-1 by Elche. A set back for second placed Almería on Saturday evening, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Xerez ending their unbeaten run of 12 games. Camuñas (2) and Geijo got the goals to get new coach Miguel Angel Roldán off to a good start. Almería could still be mathematically promoted next weekend though after fourth placed Ciudad Murcia were held to a 1-1 draw by Castellón. Goitom's early strike was cancelled out by Tabares soon afterwards to give the visitors another point in their fight to distance themselves from the relegation spots.

Cádiz are back up to fifth after beating Poli Ejido, Miguel getting the only goal early in the second half to hand the locals their fourth defeat in a row. Sporting Gijón and Alavés drew 1-1, a result which leaves both within a short distance of the bottom four. But Las Palmas moved closer to safety after coming from a goal down to beat Hércules 3-1 with three in the last quarter of an hour of the match. (28.04.07)
