Valencia completed the formalities to qualify for the league stage after beating Elfsborg 1-2. With a three goal lead from the first leg, Quique Flores used to occasion to give a run out to some of his lesser used players. And within four minutes they added another, Iván Helguera heading home Joaquín's cross for his first goal with his new club.

Joaquín came close to increasing the lead when he hit the post, but Alexandersson levelled the scores for the Swedish club on the night, beating Hildebrand with a deflected shot on the half hour mark. After that though Valencia didn't want to take any more chances on Elfsborg's artificial pitch and they shut up shop. Quique Flores rested tired legs, and substitute David Villa got the winner in the last minute of normal time after Wiland could only push out Joaquín's shot.
