Barcelona head up group E after a 0-2 win at Stuttgart. Frank Rijkaard's side started strongly, with Deco hitting the post and Messi and Henry bringing good saves out of Schäfer. But only a brilliant double save by Valdés from Mario Gómez kept the scores level, and the Barça keeper had more work to do either side of half time.

The Catalans took the lead though following Xavi's corner when substitute Puyol scrambled the ball home after the keeper could only block Ronaldinho's header. Messi made it two a few minutes later with a shot which deflected in off a defender after connecting with a cross from Thierry Henry. And Messi and Bojan could have increased the lead later on had Schäfer not been on top form.
