Valencia are virtually out of the Champions League after a 0-2 defeat against Rosenborg. Ronald Koeman was in charge of the Chés for the first time, and his side went close several times early on, in particular a couple of efforts from Villa and a header from Helguera which Hirschfeld kept out. But Kone gave a warning when he shot wide, and the Norwegians took the lead on the half hour mark when Iversen picked up Sapara's square pass to beat Hildebrand with a shot on the turn, his firrst goal in eleven years in the Champions League.

Kone could have scored for the visitors a couple of times after that before the break, a first header bouncing over the bar and a second effort saved by the keeper. Villa had an effort cleared by the visiting defence, but a few minutes after the restart Iversen got his second of the night, the ex Tottenham striker heading in to an empty net after Hildebrand had misjudged a corner. It could have been worse after Kone hit the post and then had a late effort saved by Hildebrand, but as things stand Valencia will have to beat Schalke at home and Chelsea away to have a realistic chance of going through to the last sixteen.
