Sevilla are sure of a place in the last sixteen after beating Arsenal 3-1, the first defeat for the Gunners since last April and the first goals they have let in this season in the Champions League. With his side already through, Arsene Wenger put out a depleted line up, but even so Eduardo picked up a cross from Bendtner to hold off Alves and put his side in front with just over ten minutes gone. However Keita drilled home the equaliser after Gilberto could only clear a Navas cross into his path soon afterwards.

Luis Fabiano headed an Alves free kick wide of Almunia to give the Spaniards the lead ten minutes before the break, although Palop had to be at his best a few minutes later to deflect Eduardo's shot over the bar whilst lying on the ground. Eboué had a penalty appeal turned down by Eric Braamhaar soon after the restart, and the referee actually awarded a spot kick to Sevilla soon afterwards when he considered that Senderos had handled in the area, only to change his mind after consulting his linesman.

Luis Fabiano had gone close a couple of times before that, but the referee did give the home side a penalty with two minutes to go after Kanouté was sandwiched between Touré and Sagna, the ex Spurs striker converting the kick to put the result beyond Arsenal's reach and take his side above them in the group table. Wenger wasn't in the dugout to see it though as he had been sent off a few minutes before.
