Barcelona's only hope of a trophy this season were kept alive after a score-less draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester United. It looked as if they were going to struggle though when the visitors were awarded a penalty in only the second minute after Milito handled in the area, but Cristian Ronaldo uncharacteristically fired his spot kick wide.

With Messi and Deco in the starting line-up for the first time in several weeks Frank Rijkaard's side had most of the possession after that, but they were unable to break down a well ordered and often packed defence. Márquez and Xavi were unable to convert dangerous free kicks and Iniesta shot wide, but Márquez was lucky to be let off a second penalty when he bundled in to Cristian Ronaldo, who's rapid fall probably convinced the referee to wave play on.

Barça's best chances though came after the break, Zambrotta almost catching out Van der Sar with a long shot and Eto'o shooting wide after a quick passing move. Carrick hit the side netting at the other end, but Zambrotta and Henry brought a couple of late saves out of the visiting keeper.

So everything will be decided next Tuesday at Old Trafford, and although the Catalans must be ruing not taking a lead with them, the clean sheet means that they would go through with a score draw.
